Phyllis Chesler on The Blaze
Apr 03, 2014
Few Westerners will ever be able to understand Muslim or Afghan society unless they are part of a Muslim family, but one American woman naively fell down that rabbit hole. In the early 1960's Phyllis Chesler, just out of college, had fallen in love with an older Afghan man who she met while studying at Bard College. After just two years, he insisted on marriage and the two wed at a civil ceremony in the U.S. They traveled to Europe for their honeymoon and then planned to stop off in Kabul to meet his family. But that's when things took a turn for the worse because Chesler soon learned this was their final destination and wound up a prisoner in her husbands' family home.
