My work lands in Spain

I began working on Women and Madness in 1969–fifty three years ago. Maybe I’d been writing it my entire life—or maybe I was inspired and empowered by the feminist movement. It is a rare privilege to be among those whose works may remain in print for a long time, if not forever. When Women and Madness first came out in 1972, it quickly appeared in French, German, Dutch, and Italian. Within a decade, it could be found in Japanese and Hebrew. Recently, it also appeared in Korean. When Franco ruled, I had refused to publish in Spanish. And now, I am so happy that this work has been published in Spain. Thanks to my publisher, Continta Me Tienes in Madrid, my translator, Matilde Perez, and my American publisher, Chicago Review Press, which has successfully been selling my work abroad.
