My Mother's Day Treat
May 09, 2022

My Mother’s Day Treat I elected to work yesterday, I decided that it was far too cold outside for me to visit with my son and with one granddaughter, masked, in the park. My other granddaughter has been “in jail” with Covid. These days, socializing is risky for those of us of a certain age who also have compromised immune systems. However, my son, my wonderful son, sent me an inspired Mother’s Day gift—an iced cappuccino and the most delicious desserts in jars from the Harlem Baking Company. When he was a child I used to send him out to get me a cappuccino and a scone or a pastry in Park Slope, in Brooklyn, my former neighborhood. He remembered, he clearly remembered the days when he was once shorter than I was…but not the days when he slept beneath my heart and we both dreamed him into being. Here I am, rather decorous in antique French lace, which I put on to “dress up” for a facetime visit with both granddaughters, my daughter-in-law, and my son.
