The Iconoclast

The Jewish Voice

But first: I must take strong issue with Haviv Rettig Gur’s article that ostensibly criticizes Kristof’s odious piece at the NYT. I do not like that Gur felt it absolutely necessary to “cop to” allegedly more minor abuses of prisoners in Israeli jails in order to obtain the moral high ground from which to challenge Kristof’s hallucinatory dog-rape fantasy. Who is Gur appeasing, to whom is he appealing? Those who pick at each and every minor or even major failing of the Jewish state--over and above prioritizing the fact that the Muslim world has been engaged in never-ending terrorist attacks against Jews and then against the Jewish state, as well as attacking the Jews globally forever? Non-stop. Always. Not to mention the non-stop Marxist and “woke” propaganda against both the Jews and the West or, as Asra Nomani has phrased it: The Red-Green Alliance. I am enormously cheered to learn that the state of Israel plans to sue The New York Times. There is also a demonstration planned for this evening at 5pm outside their headquarters. I once attended and even spoke at such a demonstration. I am sorry to say that it will probably accomplish nothing. Diaspora Jews do not bring battering rams, bats, stun guns, and torches with them. We are not that kind of people. We are not, alas, the IDF.

In any event, the NYT is shameless. When I checked the comments section in response to Kristof’s article, I learned that 600 letters had been received, that the comments section had been closed, and that the Times had published only 25 letters, most of which praised Kristof’s op-ed piece.

Oh! How Pravda lives on. (Pravda = Truth = Lies.) Stalin is with us–but so is Orwell.

Let’s never forget that the NYT literally buried news of the Holocaust.

Over the years, I have written hundreds of articles documenting the word count, the amount of space, and the placement of photos that the NYT’s has used to damn Israel. I did not think I needed to write one more line. There are now newer, younger, and healthier truth-tellers among us. Baruch Hashem! I believed that my role was to forward their pieces to all the right websites, to the best editors, and to listserv groups, while I write the books that only I can write,

Forgive me. I just had to say at least something. What I really wanted to write about today was something about my guest yesterday–a Renaissance Woman if ever there was one. Her name is Sophia Murashkovsky Romma. She was born in Moscow, her mother was born in Ukraine, and her father was born in Bucharest. Her grandparents spent years in the gulag for the “crime” of being Jewish. Sophia is an international human rights lawyer, a teacher of Legal Writing at Touro, a playwright, a filmmaker, and the single mother of two children, as well as the caretaker of her aging, failing parents. She is also the Chair of the United Nations Committee of the New York City Bar and their Chair on the International Subcommittee on Ukraine.

But that’s not all. Sophia once worked with Ellen Stuart at Cafe La Mama, has lived in Israel, represented refugees, documented the trafficking of Ukrainian and Russian women into Turkey, has a documentary out now titled Soul Arbitration, which concerns the displacement of women and children in conflict zones like Ukraine. Of course, Sophia speaks Russian, Ukrainian, English, and Hebrew. Sometimes, she works as a translator at the United Nations. Sophia seems to be living many lives all at once. Her stories are grave, shocking, wondrous. Her tales about Holocaust and 10/7 erasures are, sadly, all too believable.

Kristof and Amanpour and all the other pretendees to front-line battles that they cover at safe distances cannot hold a candle to those who really risk their lives to photograph or interview the noble wretched of the earth.

Oh, one more thing: Yesterday I sent Israel’s Civil Commission Report about 10/7, together with Eve Barlow’s riff on it, to every single living Second Wave American feminist who remained treacherously silent at that time. I’ve received only one response–from the great Susan McDonnell, a co-founder of the British group Feminists Against Antisemitism. She is neither an American nor a Second Waver. Yes, I sent the Report to Gloria Steinem, Letty Pogrebin, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Dorchen Leithold, Alix Kates Shulman, Eleanor Smeal, Louise Bernikow, etc. I did not send it to Robin Morgan. Why bother??
