Dear Friends, circa 1982

Dear Friends, circa 1982

I came across this, among many old photos that seem to be tumbling out of binders and boxes. Here are, from left to right: Nena O’Neill, (author of “An Open Marriage” and “Shifting Gears”); Barbara Seaman, (author of “The Doctor’s Case Against the Pill” and “Free and Female”); Sophie Kier, (a beautiful writer but lucky-for-her, not a published author), and Kate Millett (“Sexual Politics” and “The Basement”). Only Sophie is still alive. This seems to have been taken in my Park Slope brownstone in 1982 but I have no living memory of it. A book party? A holiday ritual? A gathering of some kind?
