A ROSH HASHANA GREETING
Sep 18, 2017
Happy New Year
It is 5778--and we are still here; counting and being counted.
After shul, the world, even on Shabbat, "was too much with me"--and that, plus the high pollen count, kept me rooted me to my comfortable spot right at home. However, I watched several Slichot services that took place in Jerusalem--the joy, the agony, the urgency, the pleading, the bouncing--were all quite wonderful, as was the religious diversity. I saw men without Kipas, wearing shirts without ties, men wearing streimels, many wearing Kipas, the chazzan wore a magnificent Tallis, but by and by, I began to miss the female voice, it was entirely absent, and so I began hunting for women cantors online and found a few, too few, but surely, this, too, is one of the many voices of the Divine....
May you all have a blessed, healthy, productive, and successful New Year.
Shana Tova U'Metukah,
Phyllis
